Thank you for contacting us and for your inquiry about our Maca Powder.
Navitas Organics Maca is a blend of all the maca colors- black, cream and red. Our maca farmers in Peru use traditional farming methods. Maca on the Junín Plateau grows in a spectrum of colors, and we harvest the maca as it grows naturally. Navitas Organics does not isolate the maca colors and blend them into specific percentages. Different colored maca varieties are geared toward different adaptogenic characteristics. Our maca is a blend of colors and therefore has a broad spectrum of benefits. Despite variances in the finished product, the Maca will still have comparable nutritional density and adaptogenic properties.
I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions and take care.
Our maca powder is sourced from it's native country of Peru. We work with co-op farmers there to provide the most nutrient dense maca on earth. Heavy metals are found in soil all over the globe and are not unique to any one area. They can end up in soil due to environmental pollution, but are also naturally occurring elements in soil, and it is impossible to determine which source they come from when testing soil.

I have been taking the Maca powder for 9 days now, by adding a small tea spoon with my banana puree and fruits in the morning with my breakfast. I have noticed positive effects already, with mood being better, skin becoming very clear and pretty and libido going up. I have to admit I started taking this because my Yoga teacher suggested it boosts fertility and I want to get pregnant. I noticed just today on the label that you posted a warning that there is a chemical in the powder known to produce birth defects and reproductive harm. This is ver scary to me, I took the Maca powder before ovulation and I stoped today (at ovulation). Can you give me more information on this? How is this product processed? Is it sun dried and ground? Liofilized? Is is very concentrated? I have read that the incas would cook it, add it to casseroles or soup. Also that they would give it to their animals to boost a larger number of progeny and healthier litters. Please explain.

We're very sorry to hear that our maca powder did not agree with you. The reaction you described is rare and is not representative of what most people experience with maca. Everyone reacts to foods differently, and we unfortunately cannot predict every person's individual sensitivities.
We do offer a gelatinized maca as well for those who do not tolerate minimally processed maca, but we remain committed to offering our superfoods in minimally processed forms, so will continue to offer this option as well.
If would like to reach out to us directly at navitasorganics.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new we would be happy to send you a bag of the gelatinized maca as a replacement.
