Black Bean Burgers Recipe

Here's the secret to making sure your veggie burgers deliver in the protein department: Add a bit of unflavored protein powder to the mix – remarkably satisfying! You can keep these patties warm while cooking by storing them inside of an oven set to low heat.


3 cups unsalted cooked Black Beans (or about 2 15-ounce cans)

1/4 cup minced Shallot

6 Tbsp Navitas Organics Protein & Greens Essential Blend

1 tsp ground Cumin

1 tsp Garlic Powder

1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper

2 Tbsp Ground Flaxseed Powder

1/4 cup fresh Lime Juice

Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper

Olive Oil, for cooking


Rinse the beans well, then spread out on a couple layers of paper towels and blot dry. Add the beans to a food processor along with the shallots. Pulse several times to “rough up” the beans and partially mash, but do not puree. Transfer the beans to a large bowl, and add the Protein & Greens Essential Blend, cumin, garlic powder, cayenne, flaxseed powder, and lime juice. Add one tsp. of sea salt (unless your beans already contain salt, then add a smaller quantity, to taste). Mix all ingredients together until well combined.

Form the mixture into 6-8 patties. Brush one side of each of the patties with olive oil, and season lightly with salt and pepper.

Warm a large saute pan over medium-low heat and add the patties, oil-side down. While the patties are cooking, brush the top side with olive oil and lightly season. Cook both sides until nicely browned and serve warm, with burger trimmings of choice.

Makes 6-8 Burgers
